Senior Analyst
Researcher
The National Audit Office is undertaking an extensive external recruitment campaign over the summer for our Value for Money discipline. Our Value for Money reports, which often hit the national headlines, identify waste and highlight areas for improving the way public money is spent, ensuring that taxpayers receive services of the highest quality and of the best value. We need to make sure our reports are data rich, based on strong analysis, and convey strong messages to our audiences in Parliament and government.
Specifically, we are seeking to enhance our existing skills in disciplines such as economics, statistics, operational research and social research and project management. Candidates will therefore need to hold a relevant postgraduate qualification, together with at least a 2:1 first degree in a numerate discipline (or one with a significant quantitative element).
Opportunities for Senior Analysts and Researchers are available in both our London and Newcastle offices. Posts are open to UK, EEA and Commonwealth nationals, with the exception of our Defence work, which is restricted to UK nationals only for security reasons.
Further details of the roles are available in the job descriptions and person specifications below.

The role of an Audit Principal at the National Audit Office involves delivering the audit work required for a number of clients to a professional standard, advising clients on their financial management procedures, leading and supervising teams of junior staff on audit visits and supporting and, where necessary, deputising for the Audit Manager. The latter might include acting as a representative at clients’ Audit and Risk Committees. The range of clients you may find yourself working on can include major audits of large Government Departments or Agencies through to smaller less well known but equally interesting bodies.
In practice, you will be drafting the audit strategy, preparing audit
plans and setting budgets, allocating work to junior staff and reviewing
