Work in Progress: The Administrative Burdens Reduction Programme, 2008
Through the Administrative Burdens Reduction Programme, the Government aims to reduce the administrative burden imposed by regulations on private and third sectors by 25 per cent by 2010. The Programme aims to reduce the costs to businesses of complying with administrative activities required by regulation.
We published our first report on the Programme in July 2007. This second examination will focus on the first full year of implementation. We intend to follow-up the recommendations in our first report; audit the robustness of claimed reductions; and review whether the Programme is achieving its intended objectives. In doing so we will aim to assess the achievements of departments and highlight good practice. We will also re-run our business survey on the perception of regulation to track if, and how, businesses’ experience of regulation changes as a result of government initiatives.
Publication Schedule
We intend to publish our report in Autumn 2008.
