INTOSAI is the professional organization of supreme audit institutions (SAIs) in countries that belong to the United Nations or its specialist agencies. SAIs play a major role in auditing government accounts and operations, and in promoting sound financial management and accountability in their governments.

Government audit today enjoys world-wide recognition, a development accompanied by a growing awareness of the significant role played by national supreme audit institutions (SAIs) in auditing public expenditure. 

For more than 40 years, INTOSAI, the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions, has provided an institutionalized framework for coping with ever-increasing demands. Its members comprise the SAIs of over 180 nations and qualifying organizations, while its interests encompass the full spectrum of public expenditure audit. In addition to IT Audit, other INTOSAI specialist committees address the audit of public debt, of privatization and of environmental issues.
