Reporting attempted frauds using "National Audit Office", or named NAO staff

Although rare, Internet fraudsters sometimes use the names of NAO staff, including the Comptroller & Auditor General, or derivatives of "National Audit Office", in an attempt to defraud people through email scams.
 

Should you receive an email that you are suspicious of, we would be grateful to hear of it. Please forward the message to our enquiries@nao.gsi.gov.uk. We also recommend alerting the Metropolitan Police through their fraud alert website.
 

Recent examples:

• A message alleging to come from the head of the NAO offering to transfer funds to your bank account. This is not a genuine letter. No matter how real these messages may seem, even if they have authentic-looking NAO logos and stamps, please note that no member of NAO staff will ever offer to transfer funds into a personal bank account.
• Unsolicited email entitled "INVESTMENT PARTNERSHIP WANTED" claiming to be from the "National Lottery Audit department UK" and offering to fix a lottery draw for the benefit of the email recipient. This is not a genuine e-mail but seeks to lure the recipient into parting with confidential details and money through fraudulent representations.
• There are also emails entitled "UN TRAINING" or "UN JOB VACANCY which claim to come from the National Audit Office Recruitment Department. These emails offer "refundable" training, with the promise of a lucrative UN job at the end. These are not genuine emails and seek to lure the recipient into parting with money and bank details in order to defraud them.

The International Audits unit carries out the audits of international client organisations for which the Comptroller and Auditor General (C&AG) is the appointed external auditor. Audit clients include the International Labour Organization, the United Nations World Food Programme, the Pan American Health Organization, the International Criminal Court, the Council of Europe, the Commonwealth Secretariat, CAB International and the International Oil Pollution Compensation Funds. 

The International Audits unit handles NAO's participation in the United nations Panel of External Auditors.
